Autumn and Halloween Lettering Design Ideas

I hope you’re all enjoying this beautiful season, Autumn is my favourite time of the year! Somehow it’s when I feel the most creative and tend to take my colourful pens and painting palettes out for a spin. I thought I’d share some of the supplies I’ve been lately enjoying together with some Autumnal lettering inspiration.

Autumnal brush lettering

My all time favourite pens are Tombow Dual Brush Pens. They’re just perfect for those juicy thick strokes and I love the huge range of colours they offer, there’s something for everyone.
I used their black pen to letter the Spooktacular card below. I used the brush tip for lettering and switched to the fine tip to draw simple ghosts in the background. This would make a perfect card for those late October birthdays!

Another absolute favourite of mine are Pentel Brush Sign Pens. They’re great for thinner style lettering and can be easier to work with for beginners. I used the Olive Green from their range and lettered this Autumnal card. I used a fine tip gold pen to draw some leaf elements in the background. A simple but effective look!

I usually get blank cards from The Paper Box, they’ve got a lovely range of different sizes and colours.

Have a go at adding ink splatters or hand drawn pumpkins to your Halloween cards, signs or posters. I used a Micron pen to draw the outline for the pumpkins and coloured them in with a Scarlet Tombow Brush Pen (925).

Hand-lettered gift tags

Hand lettered Halloween themed gift tags can add a special touch to trick and treat sweet bags, cookies and little gifts. I love the look of these simple kraft tags lettered with a black Pentel pen. Try to go for short 1-3 word phrases to fit this size of the tag.

Watercolour calligraphy

If you have a watercolour palette have a go at painting some Autumnal elements such as leaves, branches, berries and mushrooms. They can transform your lettering designs and make them pop even more.
